Crispy golden fries seasoned with bold Japanese togarashi spice blend for a savory, spicy, and slightly citrusy flavor. These flavorful fries are easy to prepare and make a unique snack or side dish perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 russet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons Japanese togarashi seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Mayonnaise for dipping (optional)
  • Lime wedges for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and cut the potatoes into thin fry-shaped strips.
  2. Soak the potato strips in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
  3. Drain and dry the potatoes thoroughly with a clean towel.
  4. Toss the potatoes with oil, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until evenly coated.
  5. For oven fries, spread the potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 30 to 35 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  6. For air fryer fries, cook at 400°F (200°C) for 18 to 20 minutes, shaking the basket occasionally.
  7. Once crispy and golden, immediately sprinkle the fries generously with togarashi seasoning.
  8. Serve hot with mayonnaise or lime wedges if desired.

Notes

  • Soaking the potatoes helps create crispier fries.
  • Dry the potatoes thoroughly before cooking to improve texture.
  • Frozen fries can be used for a quicker version.
  • Sweet potatoes also pair well with togarashi seasoning.
  • Reheat leftovers in the oven or air fryer to restore crispiness.
