A fragrant and elegant saffron rice dish with delicate floral notes and a golden hue, perfect as a versatile and flavorful side.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 1/2 tsp saffron threads
  • 2 tbsp warm water or milk
  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups broth or water
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak saffron threads in warm water or milk for 5–10 minutes to release color and aroma.
  2. Rinse basmati rice under cold water until it runs clear, then drain.
  3. Heat butter or olive oil in a pot over medium heat.
  4. Sauté the onion until soft and translucent.
  5. Add garlic and cook briefly until fragrant.
  6. Stir in the rice and toast lightly for 1–2 minutes.
  7. Pour in broth or water along with the saffron mixture.
  8. Season with salt and black pepper.
  9. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15–20 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  10. Remove from heat and let rest for a few minutes.
  11. Fluff with a fork and serve.

  • Use basmati rice for best fluffy texture.
  • Avoid lifting the lid while simmering to ensure even cooking.
