Ingredients

  • 1 prepared pie crust
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream for topping

Instructions

  1. Bake the pie crust according to package or recipe instructions and let it cool completely.
  2. In a saucepan, whisk together the brown sugar and flour.
  3. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking until smooth.
  4. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens.
  5. In a separate bowl, lightly beat the egg yolks.
  6. Slowly whisk a small amount of the hot caramel mixture into the egg yolks to temper them.
  7. Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan and cook for 2 to 3 more minutes until smooth and thick.
  8. Remove from the heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract.
  9. Pour the caramel filling into the cooled pie crust and smooth the top.
  10. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours until fully set.
  11. Top with whipped cream before serving.
