A rich and comforting steak dinner featuring juicy seared beef served over creamy mushroom mashed potatoes. This hearty meal combines tender steak with earthy mushroom flavors for an elegant yet satisfying dish perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • For the steak:
  • 4 beef steaks (ribeye, sirloin, or New York strip)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme or rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • For the mushroom mash:
  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Boil the potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the mushrooms in butter until golden brown and tender.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Mash the cooked potatoes with butter and cream until smooth.
  5. Fold the sautéed mushrooms and parmesan cheese into the mashed potatoes.
  6. Season the mushroom mash with salt and black pepper and keep warm.
  7. Pat the steaks dry and season both sides generously with salt and black pepper.
  8. Heat olive oil in a hot skillet and sear the steaks for several minutes per side until cooked to your preferred doneness.
  9. Add butter, garlic cloves, and fresh herbs to the skillet and spoon the melted butter over the steaks.
  10. Let the steaks rest for a few minutes before serving over the mushroom mash.
  11. Garnish with fresh parsley and additional black pepper if desired.
