- 4 cups apples, peeled and sliced
- 2 cups mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and lightly grease a baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix sliced apples, berries, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and cornstarch until well combined.
- Spread the fruit mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt.
- Add cold butter and work it into the mixture using your fingers until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the fruit layer.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Frozen berries can be used without thawing; add extra cornstarch if needed.
- Firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best.
- Add nutmeg or vanilla extract for deeper flavor.
- For a healthier version, reduce sugar or use whole wheat flour.
- Chopped nuts can be added for extra crunch.
