Ingredients

  • 1 prepared pizza dough (12-inch)
  • ½ pound Italian sausage, casing removed
  • ½ cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup pizza sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • ¼ cup caramelized onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it heats.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage, breaking it into small pieces as it browns. Cook until fully done, then set aside.
  3. Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into a 12-inch circle and transfer it to a pizza pan or parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Spread the pizza sauce evenly across the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
  6. Add small spoonfuls of ricotta cheese across the pizza and distribute the cooked sausage evenly over the top.
  7. If using caramelized onions, scatter them over the pizza.
  8. Lightly drizzle olive oil and sprinkle the minced garlic and red pepper flakes over the toppings.
  9. Bake the pizza for 12–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Remove from the oven, drizzle honey over the top, sprinkle with fresh basil, slice, and serve.
