A classic and comforting sweet potato pie with a smooth, creamy filling flavored with warm spices and baked in a flaky crust. Perfect for holidays, family gatherings, or anytime you want a rich homemade dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sweet potatoes, cooked and mashed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). If the sweet potatoes are not cooked, bake or boil them until soft, then peel and mash until smooth.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Mix until well blended.
  3. Add the melted butter, eggs, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
  4. Mix in the ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt until the spices are evenly incorporated.
  5. Pour the sweet potato filling into the unbaked pie crust and smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake the pie for 50 to 60 minutes, until the center is set and the top looks slightly firm.
  7. Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool completely before slicing so the filling can fully set.

Notes

  • For extra sweetness and depth of flavor, you can add 1–2 tablespoons of maple syrup or honey.
  • Adding a small amount of heavy cream along with the evaporated milk can create a richer filling.
  • Serve with whipped cream or a sprinkle of cinnamon for a classic finishing touch.
  • The pie can be made a day ahead and stored in the refrigerator to enhance the flavor.
  • Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
