Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Shredded cheese (optional)
  • Sour cream (optional)
  • Chopped green onions (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground turkey and cook while breaking it apart until fully browned.
  5. Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper so the spices coat the turkey evenly.
  6. Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chicken broth, kidney beans, and black beans.
  7. Mix everything together and bring the chili to a gentle simmer.
  8. Let it cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
  9. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  10. Serve warm with optional toppings like shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions, or cilantro.

Notes

  • Diced bell peppers or corn can be added for extra color and sweetness.
  • Chipotle powder or smoked paprika adds a smoky flavor.
  • A small amount of cocoa powder or dark chocolate can deepen the chili’s richness.
  • Simmer longer if you prefer a thicker chili.
  • The chili can be made ahead and tastes even better the next day.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze in airtight containers for up to 3 months.
  • Add a splash of broth or water when reheating if the chili thickens.
