Savory Asian-Inspired Beef with Crisp Broccoli is a quick, flavorful stir-fry made with tender slices of beef, fresh broccoli, and a bold, garlicky soy-based sauce. This better-than-takeout recipe is ready in under 30 minutes and delivers the perfect balance of umami, sweetness, and crunch.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch (divided, for beef and sauce)
  • 2 tbsp neutral oil (canola or vegetable), divided
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • ¼ cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar or honey
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ¼ cup water or beef broth
  • Optional: red pepper flakes, sliced green onions, toasted sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Toss sliced beef with 1 tbsp cornstarch to lightly coat.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Stir-fry beef in batches until browned, then transfer to a plate.
  3. In the same pan, add remaining oil and sauté broccoli for 3–4 minutes until crisp-tender.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, garlic, ginger, rice vinegar, sesame oil, brown sugar, remaining 1 tbsp cornstarch, and water or broth.
  5. Pour the sauce into the pan. Once bubbling, return beef to the skillet and toss everything together until the sauce thickens and coats the meat and broccoli.
  6. Garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, or red pepper flakes if desired. Serve over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Slice beef thinly against the grain for tenderness.
  • Add veggies like bell peppers, mushrooms, or snap peas for variety.
  • Use tofu or chicken instead of beef for alternate proteins.
  • Sauce can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Use tamari and certified GF ingredients for a gluten-free version.
