Ingredients
For the Patties:
1 pound lean ground beef
1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon ground mustard
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
Pinch of salt
For the Gravy:
1 tablespoon butter
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 cup sliced mushrooms
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Combine ground beef, panko, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, onion powder, pepper, and salt in a bowl. Form into 4 patties.
Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté onions for 2 minutes. Add mushrooms and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.
Sprinkle flour over the mushroom mixture and stir. Gradually add beef broth while stirring to create a smooth gravy. Add Worcestershire sauce and season to taste.
Return patties to skillet and simmer in the gravy for 10–12 minutes until fully cooked and gravy is thickened.
Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
Notes
For added flavor, sauté minced garlic with mushrooms.
Ground turkey can be substituted for a lighter version.
To make gluten-free, use gluten-free panko and cornstarch instead of flour.
Skip mushrooms or replace with more onions if preferred.
Patties hold together best when not overmixed or overhandled.
