Lazy Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars are buttery, chewy, and loaded with melty chocolate chips—perfect when you want a homemade dessert without the fuss. Made in one bowl and baked in a single pan, they deliver the joy of classic cookies with minimal effort and cleanup.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts or flaky sea salt for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until well combined.
  4. Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined—do not overmix.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips and optional nuts.
  6. Spread the dough evenly in the prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the top is golden and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Cool completely in the pan before slicing into bars.

Notes

  • Switch up mix-ins with M&Ms, white chocolate, or peanut butter chips.
  • Swirl Nutella or peanut butter into the top before baking for a twist.
  • Top with flaky sea salt after baking for a sweet-salty finish.
  • Freeze bars for longer storage and reheat briefly in the microwave.
  • Use salted butter if needed—just reduce the added salt.
