Irresistible Chicken Kofta with Creamy Garlic Yogurt Sauce features spiced ground chicken shaped into tender kofta, cooked to perfection and served with a cooling, flavorful garlic-infused yogurt sauce. A healthy and satisfying dish ideal for dinner or meal prep.

Ingredients

  • For the chicken kofta:
  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 small onion, grated or finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon or allspice
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 tablespoons olive oil (for cooking)
  • For the creamy garlic yogurt sauce:
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 garlic clove, minced or grated
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill or mint (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground chicken, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro (if using), and spices until just combined.
  2. Shape into small logs or patties using slightly wet hands if needed.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook koftas in batches for 3–4 minutes per side, or bake at 400°F (200°C) for 18–20 minutes until cooked through.
  4. While cooking, whisk together Greek yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and optional herbs to make the sauce.
  5. Serve koftas hot with garlic yogurt sauce drizzled on top or on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of cayenne or chili flakes to the kofta mixture.
  • Grill instead of pan-fry for a smoky version.
  • Use ground turkey, lamb, or beef as alternatives.
  • For dairy-free sauce, substitute plant-based yogurt or tahini-lemon dressing.
