A comforting homemade version of classic SpaghettiOs featuring tender ring-shaped pasta simmered in a rich, slightly sweet tomato sauce with a creamy finish. This nostalgic dish is simple to prepare and perfect for quick lunches or cozy dinners.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups small ring pasta (anelli)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the small ring pasta in a pot of salted boiling water according to package instructions until tender. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, and vegetable broth until the mixture becomes smooth.
  5. Add the milk, butter, sugar, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  6. Let the sauce simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
  7. Add the cooked pasta rings to the sauce and stir until evenly coated.
  8. Stir in the grated parmesan cheese and mix until melted and creamy.
  9. Serve the homemade SpaghettiOs warm.

Notes

  • Anelli or other small ring-shaped pasta works best for recreating the classic SpaghettiOs texture.
  • Add small meatballs, cooked ground beef, or beans for extra protein.
  • Italian seasoning or red pepper flakes can enhance the flavor.
  • Cream cheese or extra parmesan can be added for a richer sauce.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
