A bright, citrusy homemade candy made from fresh oranges simmered in sugar syrup until glossy and translucent, delivering a sweet yet slightly tangy old-fashioned treat.

Ingredients

  • 3 large fresh oranges
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the oranges thoroughly. Slice them thinly or peel them into strips, depending on the desired candy style.
  2. In a saucepan, combine water and sugar and bring to a gentle simmer, stirring until the sugar fully dissolves.
  3. Add the orange slices or peels to the syrup and reduce heat to low.
  4. Simmer gently for about 30 minutes, until the oranges become glossy and slightly translucent.
  5. Carefully remove the oranges from the syrup and place them on parchment paper.
  6. Allow the candy to cool and dry for 1–2 hours, or until the desired texture is reached.

Notes

  • Roll finished candy in extra sugar for a sparkling coating.
  • Add cinnamon or ginger to the syrup for extra warmth.
  • Dip dried orange candy in melted chocolate for a richer variation.
  • Drying time affects texture—shorter for chewy, longer for firmer candy.
