Homemade cinnamon swirl banana bread is a soft and flavorful loaf featuring ripe bananas and a buttery cinnamon sugar swirl throughout. It’s a cozy twist on the classic, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup melted unsalted butter (or oil)
  • 1/4 cup milk (or buttermilk)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • For the cinnamon swirl:
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp melted butter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together mashed bananas, eggs, brown sugar, granulated sugar, melted butter, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Stir dry ingredients into the wet until just combined—do not overmix.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon swirl ingredients: granulated sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter (if using).
  5. Pour half the banana batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle half the cinnamon swirl mixture over the batter. Repeat with remaining batter and swirl mix.
  6. Use a knife to gently swirl the top layer (optional).
  7. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with moist crumbs.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Add chopped nuts or chocolate chips for extra texture.
  • Top with a simple powdered sugar glaze after baking for a bakery-style finish.
  • Swap milk with yogurt or sour cream if needed.
  • Use oil instead of butter for a dairy-free version.
  • Store tightly wrapped to keep moist and fresh longer.
