Grandma’s Fluffy Cinnamon Sugar Donut Muffins are soft, tender, and coated in a sweet cinnamon sugar topping—just like an old-fashioned donut but baked instead of fried. Quick, easy, and made with pantry staples, these classic muffin-style donuts are perfect for cozy mornings or sweet snacks.

Ingredients

  • For the Muffins:
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup milk
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Topping:
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners or grease it well.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Pour wet mixture into dry ingredients and stir until just combined—don’t overmix.
  5. Divide batter evenly into muffin cups, filling each ⅔ full. Bake for 15–18 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. While muffins bake, mix cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl.
  7. While still warm, roll each muffin in the cinnamon sugar until fully coated.

Notes

  • Add a pinch of nutmeg for classic donut flavor.
  • Dip muffin tops in melted butter before coating for extra richness.
  • Mini chocolate chips or diced apples make fun mix-ins.
  • For a lighter version, sprinkle the topping instead of fully coating.
