Juicy chicken cooked in a rich garlic brown sugar sauce that turns sticky and glossy, delivering a comforting sweet-and-savory flavor with minimal effort.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb (680 g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken on both sides with salt and black pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the chicken and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 4–5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  4. Lower the heat and add minced garlic to the same skillet. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Stir in the brown sugar and soy sauce, allowing the sugar to melt and form a smooth sauce.
  6. Return the chicken to the skillet and spoon the sauce over it.
  7. Simmer for 10–15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the chicken is fully cooked.
  8. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • Chicken thighs stay especially juicy, but breasts work well too.
  • Reduce brown sugar slightly for a more savory flavor.
  • Add onions or mushrooms for extra depth.
  • Leftovers reheat best with extra sauce spooned over the chicken.
