Soft and fluffy homemade yeast dinner rolls with a golden top and tender interior, perfect for serving alongside soups, holiday meals, or family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough gently and divide it into 12 equal portions.
  7. Shape each portion into a smooth ball and place them in a greased baking dish.
  8. Cover and let the rolls rise again for about 30 minutes until puffy.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Brush the warm rolls with melted butter before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the milk is warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast.
  • For a sweeter version, add a tablespoon of honey to the dough.
  • Brush the rolls with garlic butter for a savory flavor.
  • Dried herbs like rosemary or thyme can be mixed into the dough.
  • Wrap rolls in foil when reheating to keep them soft.
  • These rolls freeze well for up to 2 months.
