A simple, hearty black bean burger packed with flavor and made from everyday ingredients, perfect for a quick and satisfying plant-based meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (400g) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Mash the black beans in a bowl until mostly smooth, leaving some texture.
  2. Add breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, bell pepper, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Mix well until fully combined.
  4. Shape the mixture into 4 patties and let them rest for a few minutes.
  5. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
  6. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes on each side until firm and browned.
  7. Serve warm with buns and your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Add corn or grated carrot for extra texture and sweetness.
  • Swap breadcrumbs with oats for a healthier option.
  • Use a flax egg instead of a regular egg for a vegan version.
