Ingredients

  • 6 cups apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for filling)
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice apples. Toss with granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons of flour. Spread in a greased baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, mix oats, 1/2 cup flour, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.
  4. Sprinkle topping evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until topping is golden and filling is bubbling.
  6. Let cool slightly and serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Add chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts) to the topping for extra crunch.
  • Substitute pears or add berries for a fruity variation.
  • Use quick oats for a finer topping texture.
  • A drizzle of caramel sauce enhances the flavor.
  • Store in refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in oven at 350°F for 15 minutes or microwave individual servings.
