Crème Brûlée Banana Bread is a rich, moist banana bread topped with a caramelized sugar crust inspired by classic crème brûlée. The golden crackly top adds elegance and texture, making it a show-stopping treat perfect for brunch or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (plus extra for topping)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a standard loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mash bananas in a mixing bowl.
  3. Whisk in melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and sour cream or yogurt.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gently stir dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the bread cool slightly in the pan (about 10–15 minutes).
  9. Sprinkle a thin, even layer of granulated sugar on top of the warm loaf.
  10. Use a kitchen torch to brûlée the sugar until golden and crisp, or place under a broiler for 1–2 minutes while watching closely.
  11. Let the topping set for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Add cinnamon, nutmeg, or chocolate chips for variation.
  • Mini loaf pans work well for gift-sized portions.
  • Use a kitchen torch for best brûlée results, or broil with caution.
  • Re-torch or broil individual slices to re-crisp the topping after storing.
