Ingredients

  • 68 apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
  3. Transfer the apple mixture to a greased baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt.
  5. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
  7. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden and the apples are bubbling.
  8. Let it cool slightly before serving. Optional: serve with ice cream or cream.

Notes

  • Use a mix of apple varieties for more complex flavor.
  • For added crunch, mix chopped nuts into the topping.
  • To make it gluten-free, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend.
  • Drizzle caramel sauce on top for extra richness.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days and reheat to maintain crispiness.
