These Chocolate Chip Sugar Cookies blend the soft, buttery sweetness of classic sugar cookies with the gooey richness of chocolate chips. Chewy centers, crisp edges, and melty chocolate make them an irresistible favorite for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips evenly throughout the dough.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing a couple of inches apart.
  7. Bake for 9–12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden but centers are soft.
  8. Let cookies cool on the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Roll dough balls in sugar before baking for extra sparkle.
  • Chill dough for thicker cookies and deeper flavor.
  • Swap half the sugar for brown sugar for a chewier texture.
  • Sprinkle with flaky sea salt for a sweet-salty contrast.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temp for up to 5 days.
