Chewy Orange Crinkle Cookies with Bright Citrus Flavor are soft, zesty cookies with a crackled powdered sugar exterior and a vibrant orange taste in every bite. These citrusy treats are chewy, beautiful, and perfect for sharing or snacking.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp fresh orange zest
  • 2 tbsp fresh orange juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, orange zest, orange juice, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  4. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet until a soft dough forms.
  5. Cover the dough and chill in the fridge for about 1 hour to firm up.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Scoop dough into balls and roll each in powdered sugar until fully coated.
  8. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Notes

  • Add a bit of lemon zest for a citrus twist or use almond extract instead of vanilla for a subtle nutty note.
  • Blood oranges can be used for a deeper color and unique flavor.
  • If you want a festive look, add a few drops of orange food coloring to the dough before rolling.
  • For a gluten-free version, swap in a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend.
