Cheesy Texas Toast is a quick and delicious side dish featuring thick-cut bread slathered in garlic butter and topped with melted mozzarella and cheddar cheese—perfect for pairing with pasta, soups, or enjoying on its own.

Ingredients

  • 6 thick slices of Texas toast or thick-cut white bread
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon dried parsley or Italian seasoning (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix softened butter with garlic powder or minced garlic until well combined.
  3. Spread garlic butter generously over each slice of bread.
  4. Top each slice with a mix of mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  5. Arrange slices on the baking sheet and bake for 8–10 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and edges are golden.
  6. For extra crispiness, broil for 1–2 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning.
  7. Garnish with dried parsley or Italian seasoning and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use roasted garlic or double the garlic for a stronger flavor.
  • Swap in other cheeses like Monterey Jack or pepper jack for variety.
  • To make gluten-free, use thick-sliced gluten-free bread.
