A classic Cheese Ball is a creamy, tangy party appetizer rolled in crunchy toppings like nuts or herbs. It’s quick to make, customizable with various mix-ins, and perfect for serving with crackers, veggies, or pretzels.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp green onions or chives, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • ½ cup chopped pecans, walnuts, or crushed crackers (for coating)
  • Optional mix-ins: dried cranberries, chopped jalapeños, ranch seasoning, fresh herbs

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine cream cheese, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, green onions, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix until well combined and smooth.
  3. Shape the mixture into a ball using your hands or wrap in plastic wrap to form, then chill for at least 1 hour to firm up.
  4. Once chilled, roll the cheese ball in chopped nuts or desired coating until evenly covered.
  5. Let sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes before serving for easy spreading.

Notes

  • Swap cheddar with pepper jack, gouda, or blue cheese for flavor variation.
  • Roll in crushed pretzels, crackers, or herbs instead of nuts for a nut-free option.
  • Mix in sun-dried tomatoes, dill, or a touch of honey for added flavor.
  • Make mini cheese balls for individual servings or appetizer skewers.
  • Not freezer-friendly; store in fridge for up to 5 days.
