Caprese Crostini Ghosts are a fun and festive Halloween appetizer featuring mozzarella ghosts, juicy tomatoes, fresh basil, and crisp toasted baguette slices. A spooky twist on the classic Caprese, they’re adorable, easy to assemble, and perfect for themed gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 baguette, sliced into 12 rounds
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 cherry or grape tomatoes, halved
  • 12 fresh basil leaves
  • 6 fresh mozzarella slices or bocconcini, cut into ghost shapes
  • Balsamic glaze (optional, for drizzling)
  • Black sesame seeds, peppercorns, or olive pieces (for ghost eyes)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place baguette slices on a baking sheet and brush lightly with olive oil.
  2. Toast in the oven for 8–10 minutes until golden brown and crisp. Let cool slightly.
  3. Cut mozzarella into ghost shapes using a paring knife or small cookie cutter.
  4. Top each crostini with a basil leaf and a tomato half.
  5. Place a mozzarella ghost on top and add eyes using black sesame seeds, peppercorns, or olive bits.
  6. Drizzle with balsamic glaze or additional olive oil, and season with salt and pepper.
  7. Serve immediately for best texture and appearance.

Notes

  • Spread pesto on the crostini before adding toppings for extra flavor.
  • Roast the tomatoes for a richer, sweeter taste.
  • Use arugula instead of basil for a peppery bite.
  • Shape mozzarella into different Halloween figures like bats or pumpkins.
  • Toast bread in advance and assemble just before serving for crispness.
