Boneyard Brownies are rich, fudgy Halloween brownies topped with spooky bone-shaped candies for a creepy graveyard look. Perfect for Halloween parties, spooky movie nights, or festive fall treats!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks
  • Bone-shaped candies or cookies (e.g., meringue bones, candy bones, white chocolate bones)
  • Optional: chocolate frosting or melted chocolate for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Stir in granulated and brown sugars until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until the mixture is glossy and well-combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gently fold into the wet ingredients.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips or chunks.
  6. Spread batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the center is just set and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Cool completely in the pan.
  9. Optionally spread a layer of chocolate frosting or melted chocolate over the cooled brownies.
  10. Decorate with bone-shaped candies, spacing them out to create a spooky “boneyard” effect.
  11. Slice into 12–16 brownies and serve.

Notes

  • Swirl in peanut butter or caramel for a flavor twist.
  • Add crushed chocolate cookies on top to mimic dirt.
  • For extra depth, add a teaspoon of espresso powder to the batter.
  • Use a gluten-free 1:1 flour blend to make them gluten-free.
  • Chill before slicing for cleaner cuts.
