Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups milk or buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Place the butter in an 8×8-inch baking dish and melt it in the oven.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar.
  3. Stir in the milk until a thick batter forms.
  4. Gently fold in the blueberries.
  5. Carefully pour the batter over the melted butter and spread evenly without stirring.
  6. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the top is golden and set.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest to make the glaze.
  8. Drizzle the glaze over the warm biscuits, then cut into servings and enjoy.

Notes

  • Frozen blueberries can be used straight from the freezer.
  • Avoid stirring the batter into the butter for the best texture.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon for a warm flavor variation.
  • An orange glaze can be substituted for lemon.
