This Bloody Red Velvet Popcorn is a spooky-sweet snack perfect for Halloween or horror-themed parties. With a rich red velvet coating and eerie white chocolate drizzle, it’s crunchy, festive, and absolutely addictive.

Ingredients

  • 10 cups popped popcorn (plain or lightly salted)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk (or milk with 1 tsp vinegar)
  • 12 tsp red gel or liquid food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips or white candy melts
  • Optional: crushed red velvet cake crumbs or Halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C). Spread popcorn on a parchment-lined baking sheet and remove unpopped kernels.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in sugar and cocoa powder until smooth. Add buttermilk, red food coloring, and vanilla. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, for 2–3 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda — mixture will foam.
  4. Quickly pour the red velvet mixture over the popcorn and toss to coat evenly.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Remove and let cool.
  6. Melt white chocolate and drizzle over cooled popcorn. Add optional garnishes like cake crumbs or sprinkles.
  7. Let set completely, then break into clusters and serve or store.

Notes

  • Use gel food coloring for more vibrant red color.
  • Skip baking for a softer texture, or bake for crunch.
  • Try dark chocolate drizzle for a spooky twist.
  • Add candy eyeballs or mini marshmallows for fun add-ins.
  • Use kettle corn for a sweeter base flavor.
