  • 4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 (1.59 oz) package instant fruit pectin (such as Sure-Jell for freezer jam)
  • ¾ cup water

Instructions

  1. Rinse and gently pat dry the blackberries.
  2. Mash the berries with a potato masher, leaving some texture if desired.
  3. In a separate bowl, thoroughly mix the sugar and instant pectin.
  4. Stir the mashed berries into the sugar-pectin mixture until well combined and the sugar is mostly dissolved.
  5. Let the jam sit for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Spoon the mixture into clean, freezer-safe containers, leaving ½ inch at the top.
  7. Seal containers and let sit at room temperature for 24 hours.
  8. Transfer to the freezer.

Notes

  • You can add a splash of lemon juice to brighten the flavor.
  • For variety, mix in raspberries or blueberries.
  • Use a food processor for a smoother texture.
  • To reduce sugar, use a low-sugar pectin and follow package guidelines.
  • Thaw frozen jam in the refrigerator before using.
