A hearty and comforting beef lasagna layered with rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta filling, and melted cheeses. This classic dish is perfect for family dinners and special occasions, delivering deep, satisfying flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cups crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • Fresh parsley or basil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  4. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, then add garlic and cook briefly.
  5. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  6. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
  7. Simmer the sauce for 15–20 minutes until thickened.
  8. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and a portion of Parmesan cheese until smooth.
  9. Spread a layer of meat sauce in a baking dish.
  10. Add a layer of noodles, followed by ricotta mixture and mozzarella cheese.
  11. Repeat layers, finishing with meat sauce and a topping of mozzarella and Parmesan.
  12. Bake for 35–40 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  13. Let rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing and serving.

  • Oven-ready noodles can be used to skip boiling.
  • Add spinach or mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • Ground turkey can be used instead of beef for a lighter option.
  • A béchamel sauce can replace tomato sauce for a white lasagna variation.
