Ingredients

    • For the dough:
    • 4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup warm milk
    • 1/3 cup sugar
    • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1/3 cup butter, softened
    • 1 tsp salt

    • For the filling:
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
    • 1/3 cup butter, softened
    • 2 apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
    • 1 tsp lemon juice

  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk or cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 oz cream cheese, softened (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast by combining warm milk with a bit of sugar. Add flour, eggs, salt, and softened butter. Mix and knead until smooth. Let rise 1 hour or until doubled.
  2. Toss diced apples with lemon juice. Sauté briefly in a little butter if you prefer a softer filling.
  3. Roll dough into a rectangle. Spread with softened butter and sprinkle evenly with cinnamon sugar. Scatter apples over the surface.
  4. Roll tightly from the long side and slice into 12 rolls. Place in a greased baking dish, cover, and rise 30–45 minutes.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden.
  6. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla (plus cream cheese if using) until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls.

Notes

  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts for crunch.
  • Use cream cheese frosting for a richer finish.
  • Make mini rolls in a muffin tin for bite-sized treats.
  • Overnight option: shape rolls, refrigerate, then rise and bake in the morning.
