Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped apples (peeled and cored)
  • Cinnamon sugar, for swirl and topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a large bowl, beat eggs with granulated sugar and brown sugar until well combined. Stir in melted butter, vanilla, and milk.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold in chopped apples, reserving a few for topping if desired.
  6. Pour half the batter into the loaf pan, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar (if using), then add remaining batter and top with more cinnamon sugar or apples.
  7. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Add chopped walnuts or pecans for extra crunch.
  • Swap milk for buttermilk or add maple syrup for richer flavor.
  • Use plant-based milk and oil for a dairy-free version.
  • Drizzle a glaze of powdered sugar and milk for a sweeter finish.
  • Store at room temperature or freeze individual slices for later.
